Melissa “La Perezident” Perez
At the tender age of 8 Melissa Perez was introduced to Hip Hop. While shopping with her grandmother Melissa was given the opportunity by her grandmother to purchase an item. Automatically Melissa knew that the item was going to be music related. When Melissa approached the record store she became torn between Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic” and “The Bodyguard” soundtrack. Melissa made a wise choice and selected Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic”, her life has not been the same since.
Growing up Melissa was the “go to” girl for everything music related especially Hip Hop. Students would come up to her during the day asking her if she saw “Lil Kim’s” new video or heard her new song. There was a point where Melissa would engage in conversations about music with her teachers. Melissa’s opinions were always valued and trusted because everyone felt her passion. As Melissa’s knowledge of life grew, so did her passion for Rap music. The lyrics once thought of as words now had a clearer meaning. During high school Melissa’s musical collection grew and, so did her knowledge of Hip Hop. Hip Hop is a very misogynistic genre of music, but when it came to debates and opinions Melissa never budged and looked at every guy in their eye.
During Melissa’s college matriculation her love for Rap music grew more and more. Rap music consoled her during difficult times. Melissa managed to incorporate rap music in every aspect of her college career from writing a college essay on Jay-Z, as well as presenting a class project on Def Jam Records. Melissa managed to intern at the number one Hip Hop station in Greensboro, NC, WJMH 102 Jamz, where she acquired the knowledge of Marketing & Promotions, as well as hard work. Melissa graduated from Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, NC with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
A month after graduation Melissa started to intern for B-Boy Records. B-Boy records was responsible for launching the careers of KRS-ONE as well as D-Nice.Melissa has interned for Doug E Fresh, Super Produer Ty Fyffe and briefly at Phat Fashions. Melissa is ready to take her career to the next level and apply her 10,000 hours towards Hip Hop.
